Assam Tea- I am sure most of you have heard about Assam Tea even if you are not from Assam. It is a  black tea produced in Assam. It is mainly manufactured from a small tree named Camellia sinensis, whose leaf buds are used to produce tea. This tea is known for its briskness, malty flavour, and strong, bright colour which separates itself from tea plants grown in other states of India or anywhere in the world. Moreover most of us might not know that Assam is the largest producer of tea in the world.    The unique malty taste that it is known for is mainly because of the climatic condition of Assam. As this part of india receives high precipitation during the monsoons and along with the temperature of daytime it creates a greenhouse like conditions, making it a perfect condition for the plants to grow. A small quantity of green and white teas are also produced here with their own uniqueness.   The plant was first identified when a Scottish Anventurer, Robert Br...

It is the official language of the state of Assam and also spoken in some other states like Arunachal Pradesh,Nagaland,Meghalaya. A small part of the population in Bangladesh are also seen to know and use the language fluently. In the 17th century assamese was the court language of Ahom Kingdom.    It is not clear of how and where the language originated or grown but if we believe the myths it is said that it originated in Old Indo-Aryan dialects. It is also believed that Assamese and the Kamatapuri lects derive from the Kamarupi dialect of Eastern Magadhi Prakrit. But there are many who opposed it. So i guess we will never know how the language we speak now is originated by whom, when and where exactly.      The earliest form of literature of Assamese is seen in the verves of Ninth Century Buddhist known as Charyapada. Then ...

Today I shall write about the smallest river island in the world i.e Umananda (উমানন্দ) which is interestingly also in the river Brahmaputra in the City of Guwahati,Assam. It also have its own significance and known for many things.     Uma (উমা) in Assamese is another name of Goddess Parvati who happen to be the beloved wife of Lord Shiva. And Ananda (আনন্দ) means Happiness which together makes it Umananda. The British named it The Peacock Island by looking at the shape of the island when looked from a distance.    As suggested by the Hindu Mythology it is believed that Shiva created the island for his wife Parvati's Happiness. When Shiva was in a deep meditation here he was interrupted by Kamadeva and Shiva out of anger burnt him with his third eye.    In 1694,Gargaya Handique Phukan(গৰগয়া সন্দিকৈ ফুকন) the Minister of then Ahom (আহোম) king Su...
