মেজিৰ তলৰ ধেমালি

Hello
We learned about Uruka (উৰুকা)  the night before Magh Bihu or Bhogali Bihu last time. Today its time for Magh Bihu and its whole month celebration rituals. With the Sunrise of the Magh Bihu day everyone including the people who spent the night in bonfire of Uruka, takes bath early and wear fresh clothes for a whole day celebration. The females then clean the area around the Mejis and Bhelas by wiping it with soil and Lit Earthen Lamps to workship the Gods for everyones goodwill. After that the people of all ages, males and females, boys and girls gather around the Mejis and Bhelas and start the centuries old tradition of burning the Bhelas and Mejis. This is usually done by young people while the rest of the crowd enjoys the view and pray to the almighty by throwing Til and Mah (seseme and urad bean)  on the burning Huts and a mantra is recited which is- Om mahajwalay Vidmahe Agni Madhay Dhimahi,  Tanno Agnih Prachodayat (om let me  meditate on the great flame, oh fire grant me with higher intellect, let the rediant fire illuminate my mind)
After its done Prasad(Offering to God,consisting of food later distributed among the people) and then Young people takes the blessings of the Elders by Touching their feet.
Then the traditional of Bhogali Jolpan(Bihu Meal) starts. People invites their friends and relatives to their home for the Jalpan(জলপান) which mainly includes Doi Sira  দৈ চিৰা with Goor(গুৰ). Doi is Curd, Sira is rice beaten and flattened into flakes soaked and washed in water to make it soft. And Goor(Jaggery) is mixed into it for a sweet flavor. It is Served in 'Kanhor Bati' (কাঁহৰ বাতি) a bowl made from Bell Metal,a traditional craft of Assam. In some places people also serves Bora Saool (বৰা চাউল) as Jalpan which is a variety of rice which becomes sticky when cooked. This is mainly served Jalpan is one of the important part of Magh Bihu.
After chit chatting over Jalpan people people start the traditional games which are played during this day. Animals are included too in this games such as Buffalo fighting,Cock Fighting etc. Egg breaking competition,Tekeli Bhanga(Pot Breaking this are played during the day. In different places it is celebrated in different ways with Milk,Cream or Curd). This games are played not for prize but to come close with the people in our lives by spreading the happiness and brotherhood. All the folks not only just relatives and friends but the whole state synchronize in harmony for the day to bring peace and prosperity in everyones lives. This feast is a remainder to us that we are all brothers and this day gives us a chance to set the differences and come together as one.
This whole traditional is enjoyed by each and every assamese and non assamese in Assam with great joy and happiness. It is a time when we get a chance to be with our friends and relatives no matter where we lives to unite for this feast of Food and Joy.
